Past, Present, and Future

 

1947:  The Sturgeon Volunteer Fire Department and Relief Association was chartered.
The purchase of an American Le-France Pumper was the beginning of an era.


 
1948: The original truck garage located at 526 Main Street was built.



1950: With the combination of the chassis from a Studebaker garbage truck and the body of their current Pumper, they built their new firefighting engine.

 1952: This year, the Department brought on board a '52 Mack Pumper with a convertible cab.

1954: Two years later, the second of the identical convertible Macks was purchased.

1958: This year a van style, Chevrolet Apache was brought in and utilized as an Emergency Truck.

1965: The addition of the Social Hall was a milestone. This allowed hall rentals, as well as provided a place for meetings and gatherings of the organization.

1972: The purchase of the '72 Seagrave Pumper, shined a new light on firefighting equipment
for the Department.

1973: Less than 1 year later, the stage and bar were added to the Social Hall. This addition
made room for some office space as well.

 
1974: 
Bringing in the '74 Dodge , van style ambulance, allowed us to provide emergency care
and transport to the needy residents within the valley.

1980: The purchase of our '80 Seagrave Pumper gave the Department the equipment and
the ability it needed to protect the community better than ever.

1987:  Around this time, the active members joined together and put in very long hours to
complete a major addition to the building. As a result, the new second floor provided
the department with a meeting/game room, additional restrooms facilities, a kitchen,
an office and plenty of storage space.

1991:
The decision was made to continue providing emergency medical care to the
community, and a fully equipped '91 MedTec Ambulance was added to the fleet.

1995: With the number of emergency calls on the increase, an multi-purpose utility vehicle
was purchased to carry additional equipment and personnel.
 
1999: Purchase of a '99 Pierce Pumper

2002: Squad converted to a Light Rescue/QRS

2004: Mobile Air Trailer purchased through FEMA Grant


2005 Scott Health & Safety Mobile Air Trailor

2004: The 1980 Seagrave was refurbished In-House

2005: New Garage: View at our Station Tour

2007: Purchased 2007 Ford F-350 Crew Cab Pick-up Truck. Placed in service as Squad 267.
Used for personnel transport, brush fires and to pull Air-267.

2007: Purchased 2001 E-One Rescue Engine to replace our 1980 Seagrave 2nd Engine.
